Machine Room Manager (Los Angeles)

The Los Angeles Machine Room Manager will head up the deliverables department at Light Iron. They are responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the machine room and network operations center. This includes work order oversight and distribution, prioritization of machine room equipment and talent, scheduling of machine room equipment and talent, troubleshooting of workflow or technology issues, and direct supervision of machine room staff.

The ideal candidate is a good leader who has technical knowledge of the post production world. Problem solving, attention to detail, and organization are a must.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understanding of and ability to ingest and create file + tape-based deliverables, including:
    • DPX files
    • Open EXR files
    • Legacy and emerging IMF elements
    • DCDM/DCP/KDM management
    • ProRes formats
    • DNxHD formats
    • HD and SD tape elements/ operation

Skills/Experience Required:

  •  3-5+ years’ experience in technical post production leadership
  • Experience and knowledge with the following:
    • DVS Clipster
    • Colorfront Transkoder
    • Professional VTR decks (e.g., SRW5500, AJ-HD3700B)
    • Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve
    • Avid Media Composer
    • Adobe After Effects
    • Apple Final Cut Pro
    • Quantel Pablo
    • Colorfront Express Dailies

The Machine Room Manager is based out of the Los Angeles facility.  Long hours and some weekend work may be required. Some out-of-state/country and overnight travel may be expected.

This position requires occasional lifting and moving of light to medium-weighted objects (10-50 pounds).

The NY Machine Room Manager will head up the deliverables department at Light Iron. They are responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the machine room and network operations center, while managing a smaller group of individuals responsible for a portion of revenue. This includes work order oversight and distribution, prioritization of machine room equipment and talent, scheduling of machine room equipment and talent, troubleshooting of workflow or technology issues, and direct supervision of machine room staff.

Director, Business Development (New York)

The Director of Business Development/Sales will develop and execute on a strategy to increase the caliber of the company’s New York clients and to increase overall volume across all offices.  The ideal candidate will collaborate with the company’s nationwide sales team and clients, with the goal of launching new services at the company’s growing facility.  In addition, this person must utilize current relationships to grow Light Iron’s client roster, and promote cross-selling initiatives with Panavision New York and elsewhere.  This position requires frequent communication with the sales team and senior management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute on a process for growing Light Iron market-share; understand competitor landscape and use that knowledge to generate opportunities.
  • Report on new talent in the local area and foster relationships for revenue opportunities.
  • Increase the quantity of bids submitted for consideration.
  • Increase average revenue per project (e.g., higher rates via higher-tier clients, higher unit volumes per project).  Review billing practices and methodology to ensure maximum billing.
  • Increase annual project volume, paying special attention toward growing dailies processing division as well as screening services and remote color correction services.
  • Streamline bid creation process (e.g., creating templates).  Review all bids with the sales team and senior management prior to submission
  • Ensure that packaged service offerings (i.e., Panavision + Light Iron) is the “standard” messaging.
  • Establish lead generation and bidding process to enable appropriate collaboration and cross-selling (i.e., with each other and with Panavision).  Ensure that all relevant parties are aware of opportunities and that the employee with the strongest relationship is representing the company.
  • Coordinate with the Head of New Business Development and the New York General Manager to develop best practices for client services protocols, facility amenities, tours for prospective clients, and other client “touch points”.
  • Create and grow relationships to win business.
  • Act as resource for clients who need to speak about technical workflows and project management.
  • Collaborate with the Head of New Business Development to establish annual divisional revenue targets and offer constant feedback necessary for re-calibration.
  • Keep Senior Management apprised of developments, potential issues, and areas needing improvement.
  • Act as the sales face of the company within the New York market.  Attend and host events, and make connections to increase the market’s awareness of the company’s expansion.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • 5+ years post production industry experience and related working practices.
  • Understanding of company infrastructure and leading industry workflow practices.
  • Previous experience with Post Production producing, scheduling, and customer service.

The Director of Business Development/Sales is based out of the New York facility.  Long hours and some weekend work may be required.

This position demands client interaction including offsite meetings and meals.  Attending various industry functions and networking is a must.

DI Producer (New York)

The fundamental role of the Digital Intermediate Producer will be to manage projects, meet client expectations, track work orders, schedule artists, and coordinate deliverables through the facility – while meeting internal and external deadlines. The Producer is the company representative for client projects and the team leader executing the workflow plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project manage and coordinate conform, data I/O, color-correction, home video, digital cinema, HDR mastering, and deliverables.
  • Work closely with the Operations and Facility teams to make sure all schedules and work orders are accurate.
  • Track and communicate DI progress and bid/actual reports to client and production company personnel.
  • Communicate effectively and directly to clients and filmmakers.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while facilitating seamless hand-offs to fellow colleagues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with producers, directors, cinematographers, editors, and other client contacts to help source and close new projects.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Very strong understanding of latest digital cinema and production practices and techniques.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment and anticipate client needs.
  • Strong writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and ambitious, with excellent management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Multiple successful project deliveries.

2D Compositor/Paint Artist (Los Angeles)

The 2D Compositor/Paint Artist will augment the company’s current feature film and episodic finishing divisions by providing in-house visual effects services requested by customers. 2D Compositing and paint responsibilities include, but are not limited to: crew and production equipment and logo removal, monitor compositing, and beauty work. Additionally, the candidate must be proficient with the visual effects pulls process as well as with preparing elements for outsourced visual effects work. The candidate must be a collaborative team player and a motivated self-starter who is willing to take initiative, learn, grow, and develop new/innovative workflow methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute client requests using a variety of software tools
  • Evaluate bid time frame and best workflow to accommodate client request
  • Communicate effectively and directly with Production Team
  • Collaborate with Editorial, Color, and Data teams
  • Work with and communicate to clients for revisions and approvals
  • Manage multiple requests with alternating deadlines
  • Maintain project schedule and progress updates

Skills/Experience Required:

  • 2 years minimum experience working in Post Production field with emphasis in VFX
  • Experience working with various resolutions and camera format elements
  • Experience working with sensitive imagery with absolute discretion
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following software packages:
    • Flame
    • After Effects
    • Fusion
    • Mocha
  • Familiarity with the following software packages:
    • Avid
    • Resolve
    • Premiere
