Director, Business Development (Los Angeles)

The Director of Business Development will be responsible for collaboration with the Company’s nationwide sales team to identify potential clients, with the goal of promoting current creative services and launching new services at the Company’s growing facilities. Pulling from his/her past experience in post production, the Director of Business Development will be expected to collect key criteria from clients in order to craft a comprehensive budget for creative services as well as make recommendations for workflow options. This individual will be expected to utilize current relationships to grow Light Iron’s client roster and to increase the scale and scope of projects nationwide while cross-selling services with Panavision partners. The Director of Business Development, LA must remain in constant contact with the sales team & senior management but will be expected to complete regional travel for festival participation, set visits, etc as required.

The ideal candidate is a fast learner with excellent communication skills, superb attention to detail, strong grasp of financials, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities while knowing how to fill in the dots. This individual should have at least 5+ years of experience with file-based post production, including knowledge of HDR, 4K, episodic and theatrical pipelines with an interest in learning about cameras, creative technology and modern file-based workflows. This position is not a producing position, but the candidate will be expected to closely collaborate with the creative services teams as well as help educate clients and colleagues in the dailies, editorial, and finishing process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute on the sales process for growing Light Iron market-share; understand competitor landscape and use that knowledge to generate opportunities; increase bid quantities, identify higher-tier clients; analyze best use of available resources against current sales strategies.
  • Create and grow relationships to win business and foster new revenue opportunities.
  • Increase annual project volume. Special attention toward growing dailies processing divisions as well as screening services and remote color correction services.
  • Participate in lead generation, reporting + bidding & review process to enable collaboration and cross-selling (i.e., with other divisions and with Panavision); ensure that all relevant parties are aware of opportunities and that information is shared freely among the Sales team.
  • Contribute to current revenue targets through collaborative strategy. Maintain and develop individual leads. Participate in weekly lead & revenue projections meetings with accountability for individual leads/projects.
  • Act as resource for clients who need to speak about technical workflows and project management.
  • In collaboration with operations and producers, review billing practices and methodology to ensure maximum billing.
  • Collaborate with senior management to establish annual divisional revenue targets and offer constant feedback necessary for re-calibration.
  • Work collaboratively across teams – including Operations, Engineering, Client Services, Brand Marketing, and Production.
  • Keep Sr. management apprised of industry trends, new talent, potential issues, areas needing improvement.
  • Represent the Company to the industry; attend and host events, make connections to increase the market’s awareness of the Company’s expansion/service offerings. The position will require weekend and after-hours work throughout the year.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 5+ year post production industry experience and deep knowledge of related file-based workflows including 4K, UHD and HDR working practices
  • Previous experience with:
    • Post producing, project management, scheduling and customer service

  • Proficiency in Mac environment, Microsoft Office and Apple iWork applications

The Evening Vault Assistant provides customer service and assists with asset management as part of our front desk team. This is an evening position starting in the afternoon hours. Supporting the Vault and evening post production teams the Evening Vault Assistant tracks all incoming and outgoing media and manages data from multiple sources.

Color Assistant (New York)

Assist Colorist staff with system set up, pretiming, fill in/brush in work, VFX, review and downstream color sessions. Work on a variety of projects to help balance the load of color projects inside the facility and supporting the Colorists. This role will work with Production, Editorial Conform, Operations and Engineering to support a custom workflow tailored to the needs of our Clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Color grading projects under the supervision of the Colorists and Senior Colorists
  • Preparing the room and equipment prior to every session
  • Pre-grading shots as requested
  • Updating color timelines to match most recent conforms; including organizing current versions, checking for new shots, tracking windows and rendering
  • Making sure notes are relayed appropriately to producers and ensure work orders and schedules are up to date
  • Review and ensure that all elements meet visual integrity and technical specifications
  • Pan and Scans, HD / Rec 709 and HDR color trim operations
  • Reviewing master deliverables prior to delivery
  • Work closely with our in-house producers and conform artists to meet deadlines and complete work orders accurately.

The fundamental role of our Episodic Producer will be to oversee the successful execution of long and short-form episodic projects from conform to final picture delivery. The Episodic Producer will collaborate with the Episodic, Operations and Business Development staff to customize and adjust workflows to deliver quality projects within strict deadlines and budgets.

  • Supervise and coordinate conform, data I/O, color correction, and final deliverables for multiple projects

Facility Operations Manager (Los Angeles/Lexington)

The role of the Facility Operations Manager is to oversee and operate Light Iron’s newest Los Angeles facility, which hosts offline editorial rentals, color correction sessions, and screenings. The Facility Operations Manager will be the leadership face for clients and staff while working closely with representatives from Light Iron’s other Los Angeles location as well as the Senior Management team to grow this location.  The Facility Operations Manager collaborates with the Production, Scheduling, Business Development, Client Services and Engineering teams to ensure client needs are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedule Offline client rooms and Avid equipment
  • Prepare all Offline edit suites, office and finish rooms in preparation for clients. This includes cleaning rooms as well as moving and purchasing furniture when necessary, adding and deleting keycard access, preparing and closing each project
  • Maintain and make sure the facility needs are met by relying on the Company’s various vendors
  • Be the face of Light Iron to all clients working in the building
  • Manage facility staff including client service representatives and receptionists
  • Evaluate and assist with client requests promptly
  • Submit client technical requests via ticketing system; work with the Engineering team to make sure they respond quickly
  • Track room, edit, as well as shared storage usage. Communicate and invoice clients weekly
  • Work with Scheduling, Engineering, and Operations to ensure successful client color sessions and screenings
  • Other responsibilities at the discretion of Senior Management

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Post Production facility experience preferred

Post Production Systems Engineer II (New York)

The Post Production System Administrator is an integral Engineering team member who will support all IT and Engineering requests from staff and clients at the New York facility and work closely with the VP of Engineering and Light Iron management to increase efficiency across the organization by optimizing current and building new post production systems, media pipelines, and operational policies and procedures. Applicants should have a minimum 2-4 years of experience in a similar role.

It is critical that the candidate possess strong technical knowledge of feature and episodic workflows, techniques, and tools and understand the challenges and goals of creative and technical teams alike. The System Administrator is a self-motivated technical subject matter expert with the ability to address issues promptly and communicate them to the larger team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deploy and support a range of hardware and software including HP switches and LTO tape libraries, tape decks, video scopes, DCI projectors and cinema servers, monitors, calibration tools, audio systems, video routers and patch bays, Quantum StorNext SANs, Avid Nexis and ISIS, firewalls, KVM systems, OSX, Windows, Linux, Base Light systems, Resolve systems, Avid, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, Color Front Transkoder and EXD, DVS Clipster, Aspera Faspex and Signiant Media Shuttle

Post Production Systems Engineer III (Los Angeles)

The Post Production Systems Engineer 3 is an integral and very experienced engineering team member who will help the system administration team, supporting all IT and engineering requests from staff and clients at Light Iron LA. This position works closely with the Manager of Engineering and Light Iron management to increase efficiency across the organization – optimizing current steady state while building new post production systems, media pipelines, operational policies, and procedures. Applicants should have a minimum 5-8 years of experience in the engineering post production finishing field.

The candidate should possess expert technical knowledge of feature and episodic workflows, techniques and tools, and must understand the challenges and goals of creative and technical teams alike. This candidate is a self-motivated individual with a desire to take direction, looking for challenges and prevention solutions in the Engineering Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deploy and support a range of hardware and software including: routing switches, LTO tape libraries, tape decks, video scopes, DCI projectors and cinema servers, OLED monitors, calibration tools, audio systems, video routers and patch bays, SAN, NAS, Avid Nexis and ISIS, firewalls, KVM systems, OSX, Windows, Linux, Filmlight systems, Resolve systems, Avid, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, AWS, Colorfront Transkoder, EXD, DVS Clipster, Aspera Faspex, and Signiant Media Shuttle
  • Support on-set/near-set dailies deployments
  • Rapid response support for all client facing services
  • Research 3rd party products and services to suggest the best tools for the business requirements
  • Stay up to date with industry standard tools and practices to maintain cutting edge infrastructure

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Expert working knowledge of Quantum StorNext storage, Brocade switches, Supermicro computers, HP Workstations, Palo Alto Firewall, Baselight systems, and Resolve Linux Systems
  • Expert working knowledge of video and audio file formats, as well as industry standard and studio delivery specifications – particularly UHD and HDR (HDR 10, 10+, and Dolby Vision) workflows
  • Bash/Shell command line interface experience; scripting is a plus
  • Ability to manage several projects at once – the organization is lean and individual responsibility is paramount
  • A bias for action and ability to deliver mission critical support in a timely manner
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in verbalizing technical processes in a non-technical manner
  • A strong desire to deliver great looking and technically accurate content to our customers

This position works standard business hours, but may require long hours and some weekend work as needed. Some out-of-state/country and overnight travel may be expected.

Evening Operations (Los Angeles)

The Evening Operations position will increase the management presence into the evening of Light Iron’s Los Angeles facility. This role manages each evening’s facility and operations needs, and must ensure sessions, projects, and clients are managed into the evening hours. The ideal candidate possesses strong receiving and handoff skills with Operations, Scheduling and Production Teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of evening vault, security, client services, machine room, engineering, artistic, and production activities
  • Support production teams with making changes to schedule and resource requests
  • Work with operations leadership to devise and execute strategies to improve operational efficiency and scale
  • Contribute to the development of products to support operational needs
  • Report daily projects and feedback including immediate notification for any emergency needs
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to evening staff to meet or exceed goals
  • Communicate with company management regarding overall needs and ideas for changes
  • Actively review for scheduling conflicts and propose solutions
  • Act as a contact for customers who need to engage with a senior-level person
  • Daily room check and communication of any items that need adjustment

Required Skills/Experience:

  • College degree or Certificate in Business, Finance, Post Production, or equivalent
  • Managerial and leadership experience, with ability to delegate
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal abilities; comfortable making decisions to ensure project success
  • Effective communicator (verbal and written) with internal and external customers
  • Extremely organized and maintains strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure with strict time constraints
  • Willing to adapt to the changing needs of the company

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Management of Operations or Production within a Post Production finish business
  • 5+ years’ post production industry experience and related working practices
  • Strong working relationships with internal teams
  • Understand company infrastructure and how to leverage available resources
  • Willingness to work on a collaborative team in a fast-paced, growing environment

Episodic Production Coordinator (Los Angeles)

The fundamental role of the Episodic Production Coordinator is to execute tasks dictated by the Episodic Producers to help complete each project. The Episodic Production Coordinator will be handed daily duties to follow through the day and into the evening to complete or hand off. The Episodic Production Coordinator will collaborate with the Episodic and Technical Operations staff to make sure deadlines are met and communicate effectively with the Episodic Producers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate conform, data I/O, color correction, and final deliverables for multiple projects
  • Work with the episodic team to load EDLs, import titles, and prepare episodic sessions
  • Monitor, track, troubleshoot, and communicate episodic progress including details to Episodic Producers
  • Introduction and interact with client producers, directors, cinematographers, editors, and other contacts as a representative of the LI Episodic Team

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Basic understanding of broadcast and production practices, techniques, and terminology such as ProRes/DNX codecs, tape formats, SAN, LTO, and Dailies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and team-based environment
  • Attention to detail, ability to learn basics of technical finish tools, and strong communication skills
  • Self-motivated, ambitious, and ability to multi-task
  • 1 year experience of entry level post production environment
