Technical Workflow Supervisor (New York)

The Technical Workflow Supervisor will work in tandem with the New York and Los Angeles Heads of Production and Head of Dailies Operations as the technical lead in an effort to help streamline and create new Light Iron processes and practices. This role will investigate pain points and gaps in workflow and assist the given departments to resolve them in the company’s best interest. This person will approach projects set forth by the Heads of Production and Head of Dailies Operations and work with necessary departments across the company on innovative efficiencies and solutions to complex workflow problems. The role will also help departments with ad hoc, specialty solutions for particular projects on an as-needed basis. Furthermore, this person will be instrumental in documenting workflows for internal team and external clients’ use. Lastly, the Technical Workflow Supervisor will work alongside the Heads of Production and Head of Dailies Operations on assigned aspects of long term projects to ensure the company remains agile and ahead of the technological curve in an effort to perpetuate the Light Iron core value of innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and assess requests for workflow solutions from team members and communicate these to Heads of Production and Head of Dailies Operations.
  • Proactively identify workflow deficiencies and work with necessary departments to resolve them.
  • Maintain and track implemented workflow solutions within the company for efficiency and efficacy.
  • Document and communicate regularly with all Light Iron offices in an effort to disseminate and foster a cohesive corporate entity.
  • Meet with clients during camera tests to advise on acquisition through post production process.
  • Participate in all Dailies and DI workflow calls to advise on larger workflow questions to meet the needs of each client.
  • Educate project team members on developed workflow, technology, and processes.
  • Work with staff and clients on technical aspect of workflow solutions for unique projects.
  • Collaborate with Production teams of all Light Iron locations specifically regarding remote setups, remote sessions, and project sharing.
  • Advise on and help initiate deployment of ideal remote/dailies systems based on available inventory and specific project needs.
  • Lead staff in an effort to maintain a current and complete inventory of Light Iron owned equipment.
  • Support both in-house and remote teams on workflow-specific issues on active projects to help advise on next steps.
  • Interface directly with current and potential vendors, as well as other members of the Panavision family, to make sure Light Iron is leveraging products in the most effective way possible, including working with them to implement needed updates.
  • Regularly research and test new technologies and processes.
  • Allocate time for off-site training (ie. color science, LUT creation, etc.)
  • Work to ensure seamless workflow and interfacing from vault to dailies to DI and all departments in-between.

 

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 5+ years post production industry experience and deep knowledge of related file-based workflows including 4K, UHD and HDR working practices.
  • Experienced background with digital cinema cameras and their production and post-production workflows including DXL, RED, ARRI, SONY, and others.
  • Thorough understanding of digital cinema post-production workflows and tools including Blackmagic Resolve, Filmlight Baselight, ColorFront, Apple, AVID, and others.
  • Working knowledge of digital cinema data management and archive workflows and tools including YoYotta, MediaShuttle, Aspera, Netflix Content Hub, AWS, and others
  • Understanding of computer networking environments.
  • Experience in Mac, Windows, and Linux environments, with a strength in programming and scripting languages (Python, BASH, PHP, etc).

The Post Production System Administrator II is an integral Engineering team member who will support IT and Engineering requests from staff and clients at Light Iron LA and work closely with the Engineering team and Light Iron management to increase efficiency across the organization by optimizing current and building new post production systems, media pipelines, and operational policies and procedures. Applicants should have a minimum 2-4 years of experience in a similar role.

The candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of feature and episodic workflows, techniques, and tools and understand the challenges and goals of creative and technical teams alike. The System Administrator is a self-motivated individual with a desire to learn and ability to address issues promptly and communicate them to the larger team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy and support a range of hardware and software including routing, tape decks, video scopes, DCI projectors and cinema servers, OLED monitors, calibration tools, audio systems, video routers and patch bays, SAN, NAS, Avid Nexis and ISIS, firewalls, KVM systems, OSX, Windows, Linux, Film Light OS systems, Resolve systems, Avid, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, Colorfront Transkoder and EXD, DVS Clipster, Aspera Faspex and Signiant Media Shuttle

Theatrical Production Coordinator Tier 2 (Los Angeles)

The fundamental role of our Theatrical Production Coordinator Tier 2 is to execute tasks dictated by the Theatrical Producers to help complete each project during the day. The Theatrical Production Coordinator Tier 2 will be working directly with clients and handed daily duties to follow through to completion. The Theatrical Production Coordinator Tier 2 will collaborate with the Theatrical, Artists & Technical Operations staff to make sure deadlines are met and communicate effectively with the Theatrical Producers.

  • Coordinate, conform, data I/O, color correction, and final deliverables for multiple projects
  • Work with the Theatrical team to ingest media, prepare sessions, document projects and work orders

Evening Media Archivist (New York)

The Media Archivist I is an integral part of the Archive department, overseeing all aspects of archive: Verification, pulls, and final DI archives, as well as a small bit of server and storage management. Applicants should already have at least a cursory understanding of the skills listed below.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills and incredible attention to detail.  The successful candidate must be able to handle multiple tasks concurrently and be flexible to quickly switch priorities as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

          • Perform data verification of final archives of camera negative both delivered from set and archived in-house
          • Communicate with in-house and on-set technicians to address issues and resolve them
          • Restore selected material from existing archives for VFX pulls and conform turnovers
          • Archive final picture master deliverables to a variety of client specifications
          • Manage online media storage across SANs and NASs
          • Report/track bugs and crashes of software/hardware
          • Test new software and hardware
          • All other duties as assigned

 

Required Skills/Experience:

Director, Business Development (Los Angeles)

The Director of Business Development will be responsible for collaboration with the Company’s nationwide sales team to identify potential clients, with the goal of promoting current creative services and launching new services at the Company’s growing facilities. Pulling from his/her past experience in post production, the Director of Business Development will be expected to collect key criteria from clients in order to craft a comprehensive budget for creative services as well as make recommendations for workflow options. This individual will be expected to utilize current relationships to grow Light Iron’s client roster and to increase the scale and scope of projects nationwide while cross-selling services with Panavision partners. The Director of Business Development, LA must remain in constant contact with the sales team & senior management but will be expected to complete regional travel for festival participation, set visits, etc as required.

The ideal candidate is a fast learner with excellent communication skills, superb attention to detail, strong grasp of financials, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities while knowing how to fill in the dots. This individual should have at least 5+ years of experience with file-based post production, including knowledge of HDR, 4K, episodic and theatrical pipelines with an interest in learning about cameras, creative technology and modern file-based workflows. This position is not a producing position, but the candidate will be expected to closely collaborate with the creative services teams as well as help educate clients and colleagues in the dailies, editorial, and finishing process.

Key Responsibilities:

      • Develop and execute on the sales process for growing Light Iron market-share; understand competitor landscape and use that knowledge to generate opportunities; increase bid quantities, identify higher-tier clients; analyze best use of available resources against current sales strategies.
      • Create and grow relationships to win business and foster new revenue opportunities.
      • Increase annual project volume. Special attention toward growing dailies processing divisions as well as screening services and remote color correction services.
      • Participate in lead generation, reporting + bidding & review process to enable collaboration and cross-selling (i.e., with other divisions and with Panavision); ensure that all relevant parties are aware of opportunities and that information is shared freely among the Sales team.
      • Contribute to current revenue targets through collaborative strategy. Maintain and develop individual leads. Participate in weekly lead & revenue projections meetings with accountability for individual leads/projects.
      • Act as resource for clients who need to speak about technical workflows and project management.
      • In collaboration with operations and producers, review billing practices and methodology to ensure maximum billing.
      • Collaborate with senior management to establish annual divisional revenue targets and offer constant feedback necessary for re-calibration.
      • Work collaboratively across teams – including Operations, Engineering, Client Services, Brand Marketing, and Production.
      • Keep Sr. management apprised of industry trends, new talent, potential issues, areas needing improvement.
      • Represent the Company to the industry; attend and host events, make connections to increase the market’s awareness of the Company’s expansion/service offerings. The position will require weekend and after-hours work throughout the year.

Required Skills/Experience:

      • 5+ year post production industry experience and deep knowledge of related file-based workflows including 4K, UHD and HDR working practices

This role manages each evening’s facility and operations needs, and must ensure sessions, projects, and clients are managed into the evening hours.       • Oversight of evening vault, security, client services, machine room, engineering, artistic, and production activities
