With 900 VFX shots and over 75 shooting days, Ender’s Game demanded a post production workflow that was both powerful and mobile. With production in New Orleans and post in Los Angeles, Light Iron collaborated with the VFX team at Digital Domain to create a pipeline tailored for VFX integration. On set, Ender’s Game utilized the LILY PAD System for mobile color looks, the OUTPOST System for near-set dailies and backups, and the LIVE PLAY iPad app to keep the large team on the same page. To maintain color decisions made on set, Light Iron delivered raw R3D source files to Digital Domain rather than uncompressed DPX sequences. This source-based VFX pipeline allowed for a huge leap in efficiency during the digital intermediate stage.
